Free Flying Wings is a comprehensive conservation program that aims to safeguard the most endangered water birds and their habitats launched by SEE and MCF. With over 100 wetlands that need urgent protection and 24 endangered water birds as its conservation priorities, the program plans to spend the next decade (2016-2026) on building a public conservation network that complements with the government's official system and establishing conservation pilot sites through joint actions initiated by NGOs, enterprises, and the public. It is thus hoped that the program will leverage an input from the government and the public to protect endangered water birds and their habitats in China.
 

In 2018, the number of wetland protected by the Free Flying Wings program has expanded from 32 in 2017 to 50. The program also launched the Public Eco-Education Demonstration Base in North China and Chongming Nature Education Base and promoted the establishment of Luannan Wetland Reserve. In the same year, the strategic cooperation was initiated with the Wetland Management Department of State Forestry and Grassland Administration. An emergency rescue operation was conducted at the Yalu River estuary for the shorebird threatened by food shortage through adding clams into their feeding ground. In August 2018 the program staff participated in Conservation Asia 2018 conference and explored a conservation model of social participation with international forces.
 

By June 2019, Free Flying Wings has supported accumulatively 60 wetland conservation projects of 49 organizations, conducted 3,000 wetland patrols and bird surveys, protected 2,000 square kilometers bird habitat, submitted 80,000 entries recording 600 bird species, submit more than 1000 threats of poaching, pollution and construction, and organized 400 times of nature education activities reaching out to a total of 120,000 people.
